There are many opportunities to take advantage of parametric design tools, for example Rhino-Grasshopper and Inventor, reaching from the evaluation of global geometries to detailing parts for manufacturing. As soon, as there is a significant amount of similar, but not identical parts, using parametric design can offer big time savings and adaptive detailing, so you can update the global geometry and for example the nodes will change accordingly. Furthermore parametric tools can support the evaluation of seam patterns and reduce material waste during the cutting process. This paper explains these opportunities within two examples: The adaptive nodes for the renovation of the membrane roof in Masserberg, Germany and the material optimized cutting pattern for the membrane roof in Abano Terme, Italy
